2021 Programs

Applications for the 2021-2022 VET program are now open. VET Lab for Schools will partner with Secondary Schools who meet the required criteria and demonstrate they have the required facilities to meet the needs of the VET program. 

VET Lab for Schools partners with Schools (Government, Catholic and Independent) to deliver VET programs for senior Secondary Students and undertakes a thorough application and on-boarding process for schools to become approved delivery partners.

VET Lab for Schools does not accept individual enrolments. Students MUST be enrolled at a VET Lab for Schools partner provider.

SIS30115 Certificate III in Sport and Recreation​

The SIS30115 Certificate III in Sport and Recreation reflects the multi-skilled role of individuals in operational and customer support positions in the sport or community recreation industry. These individuals perform a range of activities and functions requiring working independently within their job role in a range of situations and environments such as fitness centres, sporting grounds or complexes, leisure and aquatic centres and community recreation centres.

The SIS30115 Certificate III in Sport and Recreation can lead to possible job outcomes such as recreation officers, activity operation officers, sport and recreation attendants, community activities officers and leisure services officers. Completing this qualification will not guarantee employment.

This qualification is delivered as a VET program in Secondary Schools through approved VET Lab for Schools partners. A VET program in Secondary Schools is considered part time delivery as students are undertaking other subjects and/or study. VET Lab for Schools has designed the SIS30115 Certificate III in Sport and Recreation to be delivered over 2 years.

Alternatively, participants who have pre-existing skills and knowledge may be able to complete the course in a shorter duration. VET Lab for Schools offers recognition of prior learning and recognises the outcomes issued by other Registered Training Organisations. VET Lab for Schools enrolment process will ask students if they have any prior learning or hold current competencies.

For successful completion of SIS30115 Certificate III in Sport and Recreation, 15 units must be completed. This includes 9 core units and 6 elective units.

The program has been designed to meet State and Territory requirements for credit arrangements in the student’s senior school certificate. This includes Scored Assessment requirements in Victoria.

VET Lab for Schools has designed and developed learning and assessment materials specifically appropriate for VET delivered in Secondary Schools delivery by engaging with a range of industry professionals.

Training and Assessment is delivered face to face via classroom-based delivery. There will also be some self-paced learning required. All learning and Assessment Materials can be accessed via the VET Lab for Schools Learning Management System. Students are given time during class to prepare assessment responses, however, there may also be times where students will need to prepare or finish their assessments in their own time.

The Training and Assessment has been sequenced in logical progression. Units of competency have been clustered to deliver a holistic and realistic education program. VET Lab for Schools provide students with all training and assessment materials and ensure access to equipment or resources needed for assessment.VET Lab for Schools are also responsible for facilitating any community partnerships required for assessment or program experience enhancement.

School:

VET Lab for Schools expects Schools to have suitable sporting facilities to conduct a range of sporting sessions. These include but not limited to open space, ovals, basketball/netball courts or multi-purpose courts. The school must undertake a pre-contract check to confirm that they have access to a range of sporting equipment for students to use for the training and assessment of their sporting sessions. If schools do not have these resources, VET Lab for Schools can assist the School in arranging access.

Schools will be required to enter into a contract with VET Lab for Schools that specifies the responsibilities and expectations of each party and supply VET Lab for Schools with a range of supporting documentation.

Students:

VET Lab for Schools expects students to have suitable language, literacy and numeracy skills to read and comprehend learning and assessment materials, access and interpret documents such as sporting codes of conduct, relevant industry reports and government education material on legislation, plan, conduct, evaluate and report on sporting activities and events, including surveying participants and identifying and reporting hazards.

There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification specified within the Industry Training Package, however, VET Lab for Schools require all students to complete the following;

  • Enrolment Form
  • Obtain a USI Number
  • Student Handbook Declaration
  • Language, literacy and numeracy assessment

There is no licensing, legislative or regulatory requirements set by the training package, however, the employment outcome for this role requires contact with children, therefore, if students pursue a career with this qualification, they will be required to obtain a relevant Working With Children’s Check (WWCC) according to their state or territory, once they turn 18 years of age.

The First Aid unit of competency is recommended to be updated once every 3 years, and the CPR component is recommended to be refreshed every 12 months.

VET Lab for Schools do not invoice individual consumers. VET Lab for Schools invoice business to business only. VET Lab for Schools do not receive any government funded subsidy for the delivery of VET programs.  Fees and Charges from VET Lab for Schools to the School are for the annual delivery and support services for the program.

Schools are entitled to a cooling off period in accordance with the Australian Consumer law. Further information on cancellations and refunds can be accessed in our fees and charges policy.

Clustered,

Year One Core Module:

Students undertake hazard identification virtually in real sporting facilities and prepare for emergency situations. 

Year One Core Module:

Students plan, prepare and promote a round robin tournament in a sport or activity of their choice.  

Year One Elective Module:

Students design, coach and evaluate a range of sport, activities or fitness sessions of their choice.

Year One Elective Module:

Students design, coach and evaluate a range of strength and conditioning sessions for a sport of their choice 

Year Two Core Module:

Students undertake risk assessments of real sporting facilities and provide strategies for safety compliance.

*Assessment are designed to meet the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority (VCAA) Scored Assessment requirements (Portfolio) 

Year Two Core Module:

Students design, coach and evaluate a range of activities, small games or fitness sessions, a minimum of ten times.

*Assessment are designed to meet the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority (VCAA) Scored Assessment requirements (Work Performance) 

Year Two Core Module:

Students design, coach and evaluate a minimum of 3 sessions in a sport of their choice.

*Assessment are designed to meet the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority (VCAA) Scored Assessment requirements (Work Performance) 

Year Two Elective Module:

Designed for Victorian Students who are undertaking scored assessment for their senior school study score.

The module contains practice exam questions, module summaries and webinar lectures.
